Setting up you're my.msugf.edu Email Account

Now that you have changed your passwords, you can begin to log into the different systems that you will have access to during your enrollment at MSU Great Falls.

To begin with, we will start with setting up your free Gmail account.

To access your college email account, go to the following website: http://mail.msugf.edu

Enter your Net ID: The same that you found in the very first steps of this page.

Enter your password: The same that changed in the previous steps.

The first time that you log into your email account you will need to verify the captcha image and agree to the Google terms and agreement form. You only need to do this once.

You will then have your email activated and you can begin using it.

Important Note about Email.

When you login to the Gmail account, at the top right hand side of the screen and even during the loading screen, it will display the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . This is NOT your email address.

Please keep in mind that your actual email address is in the format of your firstname.lastname@my .msugf.edu. An example would be a user whose Net ID is a12b123 named John Smith. John's D2L id is john.smith14. John's email address would then be This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

This can be confusing for students at first, but please note that the Net ID is used for identifying the account only, and not for email purposes. A simple way to test your email is to send an email to yourself at another email address and then view how the email arrived. For example you can send an email to another account you may have at yahoo, msn, Gmail, etc.

You may forward email from this account to another account if you wish, but the my.msugf.edu email account will be used for official business by the college while you are enrolled here. Important notices are sent to your email address and you are responsible for checking that email.

If you are enrolled in an online course using D2L (Desire to Learn), then you should also note that you cannot send email from you're my.msugf.edu or other account to the desire to learn email. Online course email in desire2learn only works within the courses you are enrolled in. Please contact distance learning or your instructor for more information on the D2L email.

MSUGF Computer Logins:

To log in to the computers at MSU Great Falls, you will use your D2L ID (firstname.lastname).

When logged in to MSUGF computers, you will also have access to network storage. Your My Documents, Internet Favorites, and Desktop settings will be saved to the network. You can also save your documents to the Z drive. This means that you can save your work on one computer to the documents folder and it will appear on any computer that you log in to.

It is also highly recommended that you use a flash (jump) drive during your classes at MSU Great Falls.

As always, be sure to back up your work as much as possible. If you save your work to places on the computer other than the documents folder, X drive, or Z drive, it will be erased the next time the computer is restarted.
