How do I authenticate with Duo using a phone call/sms/passcode?
GFCMSU has recently deployed a new way of authentication for signing into computers, user accounts, or making changes. It is a secure and simple program that prevents unauthorized users from obtaining your password and signing into something they shouldn't.
Here's how Duo Authentication works:
After enrolling, you will have set up an app on your device and registered your phone number. Duo can use a few ways to verify your identity when logging into something.
1. After signing in to your account, a new popup will appear. The first option will be "Send a Push to your Device"
This is a fancy way of saying "send a notification to your phone, and choose whether to approve or deny the sign-in request.
The notification appears similar to a text message, or any other alert you'd get on your phone. When you tap on this notification, it will bring you to the Duo app, at the bottom of the screen, there will be a green checkmark, or a red X.
2. If you'd like to just receive a phone call, you can press the "Call me" option, you should then get a call from a (561) number. (Note, this phone number can vary). An automated voice will inform you to either hang up the phone call to d decline, or press any number on your phone to approve the request.
3. The third option is to use a passcode (one is setup by default by Duo). The passcode is on a timer, and regenerates to ensure security. You can view this in the app, or on the prompt on your PC. Clicking "use a passcode" allows you to enter in the code, or have Duo send a text-message to your phone containing your passcode.
